An essential tour for chocolate lovers and history lovers alike
Sajjad_L
, Aug 2022
What made the tour such an incredible experience came down to two things: the history of the city adding a new dimension to the chocolate and the enthusiasm and creativity from our guide, Maria. The order of the tour was done well, each chocolate shop was not only better than the one before but added a new element to what chocolate can be and is. The walk through the old city was very pleasant (although maybe one more bathroom break would’ve been nice for some) and the pace of the walk was perfect, not too slow that the tour started to drag and not so fast that the group had trouble sticking together. The last part is also a tribute to the excellent guide who made everyone feel both welcome and excited about the next shop or site. So to summarize, this tour is great for people who enjoy history but for chocolate lovers, this tour is essential. I sincerely recommend this to all who visit Geneva, easily a 5 star experience.

Not for children

This tour is not suitable for children as it will exhaust them with a lot of walking just prepare them with water and light clothes

Take this tour for the chocolate AND a tour of the city!

Maria was our tour guide and she was absolutely phenomenal!! I cannot say enough amazing things. We had taken a Geneva City tour the day before and didn't learn half of what we did with Maria. She taught us so much we hadn't previously learned and had answers to all our questions! I recommend this tour both for the (AMAZING) chocolate, but also to learn about the city -you will not be disappointed. ALLERGY: I'm very seriously allergic to nuts, so I was a little worried if I'd be able to enjoy the tour but Maria went above and beyond to make sure I was included at every stop. She let me know at the start there might be some places I'd have substitutions and she checked everywhere to make sure I'd be okay. ONE CHALLENGE: The ONLY thing I would say, is if you're able to take the tour earlier in the day OR not on your last day, do it. Maria let us know it's best not to buy chocolate when we stop at the stores and to go back later since we are outside the whole time, the chocolate would melt. Not a problem at all - except the stores close at 6pm and our tour didn't end until 5:30pm so we had to race back. This also wouldn't be a problem except we were leaving Geneva the next morning so wouldn't be able to get back to them. This is not a problem at all, but a recommendation for anyone looking to take the tour. It is 100% worth it!

Fantastic way to spend 3+ hours! Margeaux was a fantastic guide - energetic, knowledgeable and fun! We started out learning about the history of chocolate, and Switzerland’s contributions. First stop was a lovely shop that served chocolate the way it was originally consumed- as a drink. (Felt like a chocolate IV)! Then a short, cool boat ride across the lake to Old Town. Stopped at several more chocolate stores with samples while walking the lovely streets and learning the history of Geneva. With all the samples, we didn’t need lunch! We very highly recommend this excursion!!

Noa, our tour guide, started off and maintained a high energy. Learned a great abbreviated history (chocolate and the city/Swiss) and ate great chocolates at some local places. She even showed us a local tradition that only happens once a year. Not only was our tour guide upbeat, she also gave us recommendations for other stuff to do/see in Geneva as well as answered non-tour questions. Definitely be ready to walk, up and downhill since you’ll go through the old city center.

Chocolate/History to that is a MUST DO!!

We had Margo as our guide, and she was just amazing!! So sweet and welcoming. It put everyone in a good mood, and seeing as there was a fairly large group of us, this was no small feat! She managed the group wonderfully. We all learned so much not only about the history of chocolate, but the history of Geneva as well! We saw and learned about so many interesting pieces of Geneva’s history, and with all the places Margo took us and the stories she told, I truly felt like I was getting a prime historical/cultural experience. It was so wonderful, and I would absolutely recommend this experience to anyone.

Smashing the chocolate cauldron at the canon area with the mosaic tiles. Of course tasting all the chocolate was great too.

Most memorable was being chosen to break the caldron, 2 months after my granddaughter was chosen on the same tour with Noa, who was an energetic entertaining guide.
