Montalcino, Orcia Valley, Pienza, and Montepulciano: Wine- and Cheese-Tasting Guided Tour from Florence

We had a very pleasant day with our guide Roberto and driver Claudio. Roberto was very kind and extremely knowledgeable. I told him it was my friend’s birthday so he put a candle in a delicious pastry and led the group in happy birthday. It was such a thoughtful, added touch which made the day extra special . During the time on the bus, Roberto found the perfect balance of talking to provide interesting information and giving time for peace and quiet to enjoy the landscape. When we drove past the house where the movie Gladiator was filmed, he played music from the movie and asked the driver to stop to let us take pictures. The wineries we stopped at were beautiful, most especially In Montalcino. I felt very lucky to taste and learn about brunello in such a magical setting. We had a lovely lunch and enjoyed free time in Pienza, which was an unexpected hidden gem that I’d never heard of before. It’s stunning! We didn’t have any time to walk around montepulciano, which was fine with me because I’ve been there before. However, others might have wanted more time there. It was the same in Montalcino. That said, the stunning view and setting for the wine tasting more than made up for it. The tour company did an excellent job. The meeting location was easy to find and the process was well organized. The only drawback was the fact that people brought their young children with them on the tour, which I thought was very strange. The kids were noisy at times and held things up for the entire group because they were car sick, fell down or were occasionally misbehaving. Perhaps the tour company could suggest a minimum age for participation? No one under the age of 13 maybe? Some of the other people on the tour were rudely talking when the guide or vineyard employees were speaking, which was annoying, but obviously not a reflection of the tour company in any way. Overall, l learned a lot about wine and the beautiful Val d’Orcia region and I felt very safe with Claudio expertly navigating the large tour bus through the narrow, winding, mountain roads of Tuscany. Roberto was an excellent, polite, funny and informative guide. I highly recommend this excursion to everyone.

We had a wonderful time on this full-day tour. The two wineries we visited were beautiful and the wines were delicious. The three towns that we visited were also stunning. We enjoyed exploring each of the three places just as much as we enjoyed the wine tasting. Overall, this tour was a great way to see these three places, which takes up the majority of the time. If you are just interested in drinking wine, this probably is not the tour for you. However, if you are interested in exploring some beautiful towns in the Tuscan hills and having some wine, then this tour is definitely for you!

The experience was good. Our issue was that the itinerary on the website is inaccurate. Montepulciano is the first, not the last stop. We had made plans to stay the night there after confirming with a Viator operator. Because of our reservation, we were unable to participate in the entire wine tasting tour. The description of this trip needs to be corrected.

Wonderful excursion - there are a lot of steps and inclines- good walking shoes a must. The wine tasting locations are breath taking. Our tour guide Serena was very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful.

It's a perfect tour to discover vald'orcia one of the best area in tuscany, landscape is stunning, our guide valentina was great and super helpful, l can definitely recommend it also the wine is fantastic... Get the tour and enjoy tuscany!!

We were absolutely impressed with this tour. Even though it was a large group, it did not feel that way. It was very organized and we were able to tour the wineries in Montepulciano and Montalcino. The wine was delicious and our guide, MARCO, was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We have done many tours throughout our travels and believe that this was one of the best (if not THE best) that we've ever done. There is some walking up and down the hills in the mountain towns, so was glad that my sandals were comfortable. I also appreciated having free time in each of the towns to explore. Wonderful tour with CiaoFlorence group!! You won't regret it!

Great day! Well worth the travel and terrific experience. Even though I traveled solo, I met others on the tour and we had a wonderful day.

It was a wonderful day, Elena was a great guide and each town was beautiful. A great way to see the Tuscan Country side!
