3 days Fez to Marrakech
Cindy_D

Incredible trip. I had the best nights sleep of our stay in Morocco. Amazing accommodations and staff at the desert camp. A lot of driving is involved but its a great way to see the country. Our driver, Hachem had a wealth of knowledge of the places we visited. Five travelers started our trip but three returned to Fez after the desert camp. It was my daughter, myself and Hachem for the remaining two days. He took very good care of us. It was wonderful talking to him about his culture. The trip was a great value and I would give it 10 stars if I could. Thank you Hachem

Great roadtrip. Really enjoyed it, it's a long drive, basically 3 days of driving, but with all the Stops and amazing landscape the time passes very fast. Almost all is well organised, staff know what to do, they have experience and they use it. Desert part is better than expected, beautiful dunes, camel ride real fun (albeit uncomfortable ;)), very lovely camel handlers. The camp - we stayed in Sahara Gardens (hello to Mr Owner!) is beautiful, you arrive in the evening, with lights on, super romantic scenery. Tent is more of a little house, has all you need, considering where you are, it's very comfortable. We had tasty dinner and a little party with music, great ambiance. Morning was a bit disorganized, my group wasn't sure what we were doing, but figured out quite quickly. We had a camel ride to our car. Stop in Rissani and the tour was the low point, basically served to visit few shops with the guide, not very interesting. I'd rather take this time to visit an oasis. Same for Gorges de Torga, it's ok, but just before there was an oasis with old kasbah, we would definitely prefer that. Hotel in Ouarzazate was ok, nothing special, looks fancy, but with a lot of flaws - worn out bathroom, no hot water, dirty duvet cover (bedsheet was clean, but the cover was definitely not changed from few people, I took it out of the bed). The last day was super cool, the movie studio and Aib Bin Haddou ksar were awesome. We had "berber pizza", delicious, in the women co-op cafe, definitely recommended!
And the landscape in the mountains- spectacular! Overall, the landscape on all 3 days was quite mind blowing.
Finally- kudos to Hamza, our driver- he was a bit shy on day 1, left us without too much info to the desert camp staff, but days 2 and 3 - great!
Some suggestions:
- itinerary- swap the Gorge with Oasis visit - we have gorges in other parts of the world, we don't have Oasis and we were very curious about it. Skip Rissani place.
- lunch places - take us somewhere where you would go and not tourist ready tajine only places. Like this women cafe, great experience
- information- it will take you no time, one off task, and customers will appreciate - provide a printed couple pages with itinerary, stops description, plan for what and when, info on what to take. As the Driver is not a guide, we would appreciate the trip better.
Overall- definitely recommended, couldn't have a better way to transfer to my next point.

It was an entertaining trip for the 3 days, picked up early in Fez at my Riad and dropped off at my Riad in Marrakech around 1700L. The guide Mustaf was very nice and friendly to the group. We had 5 of us total. There is a LOT of time in the van, however we stop a lot to take pictures of the country and sites, and the landscape at times was beautiful. The camel rides where a lot of fun. We got in late so actually had a night right with the Harvest moon over the sand dunes, very cool. Accommodations were ok, the semi-permanent tents were basic but did have private bath and shower, and the second night was a good hotel with a pool and good dinner.

This trip is a bit of a whirlwind tour of the Moroccan back country with the highlight being the sunset / sunrise in the dunes outside of Merzouga. Downside is that it takes a long time to get between stops resulting in a lot of windshield time. Ride was comfortable - Mercedes minivan that seats 8 - and we were lucky to be joined by an Austrian couple and their children that were great travel companions.
Shout-out to our driver Mustafa who kept the rig on the road, provided a great insight on Moroccan culture and pointed out relevant facts and history along the way. He was especially helpful on the drop off in Marrakech making sure we were either at our hotel or had a somebody walk you to your riad. He will make the trip memorable.
Food stops along the way were comparable to restaurants in the Medinas of either Fes or Marrakech. Glamping in Merzouga was above expectations with a private in bathroom in the tent. Mattress was a bit stiff but clean, warm and spacious.
Random highlight was our tour guide of Rassini who was super hip yet extremely traditional and walked through the customs of the ethnic groups of the town while we took in the local markets.
One tip for newbies - pack wine or spirits as you will not find anything along the way.

All good. , except the desert camp. The facilities were primitive. Saw a nearby camp, with excellent facilities. People should be made aware of options. Those who would not mind extreme cold, no hot water and non flushing toilettes this may be OK. Enjoyed the rest of the trip. Trip from Fez to Marrakech was very good. Thanks

This is a amazing tour. It was a great experience on this three days. We enjoin the sunset ride and sunrise time. We were transferred to a 4x4 jeep to the camel base when our van arrived to desert. The staffs on the camel base ask we taking more cloths and water then bring us to the camel. But there were extremely cold after sunset in the desert. There were most tourist didn't had a good sleep on the night because not enough warm. There were nothing supplied except the dinner and a cup of tea on morning in the camp. The dinner was good. The breakfast was severed after return back to the camel base that was almost 10:30 am. Please bring enough cloths and some snacks with you. On the following two days, we enjoin the views and the meals. The driver Salim is a very good guy. He speak good English but he is not a tour guide. But he answer all the questions we asked. He stop the car on the side when he knew we were taking the picture. He went to our FEZ hotel to pick up and shipped the painting to our next stop when he knew we left it in Fez. He contacted our hotel staff before drop us in Marrakesh. This tour price was very good and valued. We found we got the best price on this tour when we talk to others on the same camp.

This tour provides an ideal transportation from Fez to Marrakech with the added bonus of a camel trek and a night in the Sahara. The driver was great and very professional but was not really a guide so don't expect a tour as such. The night in the Sahara and ride on camels in the sunset was the highlight. Other short stops in the tour were also interesting such as Ben Ait Haddou. The small group was great - 4 people in total in a mini van that could hold up to 6.
