Such a special experience!

This was such an incredible experience! We had a wonderful afternoon exploring the ranch and learning about local crops that Carlos grows on his family’s farm. He was incredibly kind, and we enjoyed being able to see the love he has for his work and for his animals on the farm. Estrella, his cow, followed us around all afternoon asking for coconut scraps (she also had the temperament of a Labrador puppy!) We HIGHLY recommend taking an afternoon for this! It was the highlight of our trip!

City Girl has fun on the Farm!

LOVED seeing all the fruit trees, coconut trees, and seeing how Carlos brings the farm items directly to the table. Wonderful hospitality even for this "City Girl!" Estella (the cow that thinks she's a dog) added to the entertainment. We would definitely recommend this excursion.

This farm-to-table experience was an absolute highlight of our week on Cozumel.

This farm-to-table experience was an absolute highlight of our week on Cozumel. We weren’t fully sure what to expect, but knew we wanted to do something that gave us a better picture of life on the island (beyond tourism), and this experience was just that. For this excursion, the guide was simply there to drive us to and from the farm. From there, we were in the supremely hospitable care of Carlos, the man who owns and tends to the land. Carlos greeted us with delicious homemade hibiscus tea and gave us a tour of everything he grows, including fruits, flowers, and even bamboo! The variety is impressive from the get-go, but even more so when you learn how difficult it is to grow things on the island due to the poor soil. From here, we got to pick our own coconuts from the tree and learn how to cut them open for drinking; Carlos made us a family-favorite tequila-based beverage; we made a homemade salsa-like dip and guacamole; and, finally, we enjoyed the fruits of our labor along with sopes Carlos made in his outdoor kitchen. The co-star of the show, as many reviews note, is Estrella, Carlos’s pet cow who is more like a very large puppy. She followed us around on the tour, wanting to be in the know (and eat everything in sight). Meeting her was so memorable that, when it came time to buy a Christmas ornament to represent our trip (a tradition we do everywhere we visit), we chose a hand-painted cow! Haha. I cannot stress enough Carlos’s humility, kindness, and optimism. He is proud to share what he is doing and to give folks a true glimpse of life on Cozumel. He has so many dreams for how to expand his efforts to create opportunities for others in his community. We were thrilled to have the chance to meet him and support his work. All in all, this was a really wonderful experience. The only critique we have, I think, is that the logistics of this excursion could be executed a little better. It was just us and one other couple, and our guide, Frank, had to transport each couple separately (not 100% sure why…possibly the size of his vehicle or him being the only team member available at the time). This led to us arriving about 20 minutes late and getting back to our hotel about 45 min later than expected. However, my husband and I got to spend more time talking with Carlos after lunch as a result which was a definite bright side.

Frank and his wife, who picked us up, were prompt and personable. We had a wonderful experience on the farm. Highly recommend this experience for those looking for something off the beaten path.

Great experience to see how they live. Carlos showed us around his farm and all of the plants and animals that he has. He used the plants that he had to make us drinks and food. We throughly enjoyed our time!

I am a bit off the straight and narrow path, I wanted to experience real life outside of everyday tourist excursions… this to us was AMAZING! Starting from Frank (our guide… so wonderful and his wife!!) to Carlos (the owner) meeting Blacky, Shell (beautiful pups) and the most adorable Estrella(my best friend, Carlos’s cow) and all the chickens… truly it was an unforgettable experience for us! Carlos walked us around his farm, I took so many amazing photos, the amount of fruits he has, blew my mind. It looks like a jungle of bushes, cacti and trees, but he showed us what they were… We were in awe!! I could’ve stayed there forever! It was peaceful and welcoming. I helped (just a little) in making homemade salsa which was great, we had fresh hibiscus water, sopas with beans, lettuce, guacamole and salsa..(FYI, my husband and I are vegan.. and Carlos was very understanding and so accommodating) we took the knowledge and now make it at home. I can’t even tell you about the food, the conversations, the experience… my husband getting a mango from the tree with a homemade net.. Carlos and Matt (my husband) gathering coconuts for fresh coconut water… Honestly, you want a real experience of what Cozumel is… meet Carlos. You will walk away feeling blessed for finding such a rare gem.

Memorable Afternoon in Cozumel

Great drinks, rare/tropical fruits and food! Carlos picked the four of us at our hotel which was a very kind gesture. Upon arrival, Carlos and and his brother Orlando showed us the many fruit trees on the farm: 4 types of tropical plums which we sampled, macadamia, chico sapote, mangoes, and coconut. Orlando climbed a ladder and picked green and yellow coconut for us. We also got some mangoes and chico sapote to take with us. Refreshing drinks : hybiscus tea, the special freshly made Toledo drink (superb!) and fresh coconut water. Appetizers that Lluvia made for us: guacamole, and pumpkin seed based Sikil-pak (yum!) and corn chips. Main dish: chicken sope made on a traditional griddle. All this made for memorable and relaxing afternoon - highly recommend this!

Beautiful local experience

Magical time on a family farm learning about local plants, interacting with farm animals, and enjoying homemade food. Logistics were well-arranged, despite our extra requests (we had luggage and wanted a ride to the hotel). We received confirmation calls on our way there and were guided throughout the experience. Got to hold a lamb, watch chicks running about, and ate freshly-picked fruit. Some of the best food I have ever had. The farm was so peaceful it was hard to leave. We will be bank!

This was a great experience that anyone going to Cozumel should do! It is not a tour but an Experience. There was a bit of confusion at the beginning but after meeting Frank we understand that this is a fairly new excursion. So once we got with Frank, all was great. He drove us to the farm where we met Carlos and his family. Wonderful people. Carlos gave us an interesting tour of their farm. His dad then made us the most wonderful drink out of rice and cinnamon (sooo good), as well as a great margarita type drink. We worked with his mom to make the lunch using ingredients right from the farm. We cooked on the big hearth in the open outdoor kitchen like they’ve done for probably 100 years. Then we were able to sit down and enjoy the wonderful lunch. Frank picked us back up at the farm and dropped us back off at the ship port area in plenty of time to get some shopping in. Getting to know the people of the area and seeing their culture first hand was one of the best experiences we’ve had in a long time. Highly recommend!

Best experience in all of Cozumel!

Fabulous! We have visited Cozumel many times, and this was by far the best tour we've done! We got to see a different side of Mexico, and Carlos and his father were the best hosts. We learned about farming in this area of the world, cooking on an stone mason outdoor kitchen, and eating the best, authentic Mexican food, terrific!!
