A little confusion at first, but more than made up for it. Great excursion, with amazing photo opportunities, wish we were fit enough to spend longer and go further up the mountain. Driver and guide were exceptional! I will be returning!

Berber villages &Atlas mountains day trip to ourika valley
This was a great day trip. Tip: even those in good shape might have some breathing issues due to altitude change when climbing to the waterfalls. Some parts were easy going but some "steps" we waist high. Simo, our driver, was onn time and we had easy communication with Whatsapp with tour operator. We visited a beaufitul cafe, a herbal medicine cooperative, typical house in Berber Village, and had a delicous lunch at a place with seating at the river. In late March, the river was quite full and active as snow from the mountains is melting. The only negative experience during our tour was the guide to the waterfalls. The guide was expert and friendly, that is for certain. However, when Simo asked if we wanted to climb to see the waterfalls and we said yes, he said he would then grab a guide. At no time was it mentionoed the guuide was additional 30 euro (or 300 dirhams). After the guide took us to our seating at restaurant and my husband tipped him, the guide said it was not enough and the cost was 300 dirhams. We werre surprised and a bit embarrassed. And then mad that this had not been communicated BEFORE the climb by Simo or the guide. After we joined Simo again after lunch, we learned this was NOT expected and the guide was being underhanded. In the end, we gave the guide 100 dirhams and he left disgruntled. It just marred an otherwise perfect day. The toour operator said they would report the guide to the association. Just seomthing for others to be aware of prior to the waterfall piece of tour.

Half Day Tour From Marrakech to the Atlas Mountains & Ourika Valley
Excellent tour from top to bottom. The hike is a little intense but not too bad. There was an older woman with me and she did it just fine. We took lots of breaks lol. You get more than your money’s worth. The food was fantastic too.

From Marrakech : Day trip to Ourika Valley Atlas Mountains
We had a lovely experience on this day trip. Pick up was prompt and both our driver and guide were friendly and welcoming throughout. The highlight was definitely the hike up to see the waterfalls. Although a little strenuous at times, it was well worth it. We also quite enjoyed the visit to the argan oil collective.

Marrakesh : Day Trip To Ourika valley
Pick up on time outside my riad, comfortable transport in air conditioned SUV. We first stopped for tea and breakfast at a traditional Berbère home where the lady of the house prepared tea and we got a tour of the house, it's really interesting to see how people live in the valley and they are very welcoming. Then we stopped at the argan oil shop where you can also find the famous black soap and other spices and products. These are all natural and proper products unlike the crap you find in the Marrakech souks so I definitely recommend buying from there. Next we arrived at the Ourika valley for a hike to the first waterfall (about an hour and a half long). The hike is manageable and it's cool up there so we didn't suffer from the heat. On the way and up there you can stop for shopping at the local artisanal shops and cafés, and cool down in the natural pools and waterfall and enjoy the stunning views of the Atlas. Our guide Khalid was really friendly and knowledgeable, he took loads of photos and videos! After the hike we went to one of the restaurants just by the riverbed which was lovely (tagine & couscous on the menu of course!). Perfect day outside of town, great to escape the scorching heat of Marrakech. Thanks a lot to the organiser Youness and the driver Kamal, I definitely recommend this tour!

When to Get There

Time your visit for a Monday, when the local market (souk) of Tnin Ourika sprawls through the village and a mix of locals and tourists haggle for goods, sip sweet Moroccan mint tea, and catch up on gossip. The prettiest time to visit is in spring (February to April), when the valley is speckled with colorful wildflowers and the surrounding cherry and almond orchards are in full bloom.

Highlights of the Ourika Valley

For many visitors, the Ourika Valley’s principal attraction is its traditional Berber settlements. The village of Setti Fatma maintains a traditional way of life, tending to its communal saffron farm and organic herb farm, producing handicrafts to sell, and serving traditional tajines and breads in local restaurants. At the heart of the valley are the dramatic Setti Fatma falls, which flow into the Ourika River and offer a thrilling scramble for adventurous travelers.
